Date & Acquaintance Rape

Most common acquaintance rapes occur in dating or romantic situations.

Date or Acquaintance Rape may occur as a result of sex role behaviors and misunderstood communications. In society, men are taught to "score", and "no" is often misinterpreted as meaning "yes" or "maybe". Women, on the other hand, are taught that flirting is harmless and if things get out of hand, it is their responsibility.

Sexual assaults are frequently committed when the perpetrator and/or the survivor are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs

Date rape drugs may include Rohypnol, Gamma Hydroxybutyrate-GHB, Ketamine, Ecstasy.

Most date rape drugs are undetectable in drinks.
The drugs are tasteless, odorless, and colorless.
After being slipped into a drink, the survivor may become heavily sedated and may remain unconscious for several hours.
