Part-Time Shelter Advocate, Afternoon/Evening Shift

Responsibilities

Provide direct support to shelter residents by addressing their immediate needs and guiding them through intake processes.

Conduct crisis intervention to de-escalate conflicts, manage behavioral health issues, and ensure safety for all individuals on-site.

Assist with childcare activities to support families and promote a nurturing environment.

Collect data related to resident progress, incident reports, and program outcomes; ensure proper filing and data entry for record keeping.

Successful Shelter Advocates must be able to work independently yet compatibly with others; must be able to work with those in crisis.

Applicants must abide by all applicable confidentiality standards of the program.
Qualifications

Shelter Advocates must complete HAVIN's domestic violence/sexual assault training program.

All Shelter Advocates will be required to undergo a drug test, criminal, including FBI, and child abuse clearances.

Applicants must be able to walk up and down two flights of stairs, and lift and carry up to thirty pounds.

Must have valid PA driver's license.

Specific training and/or knowledge of domestic violence/sexual assault issues preferred.

Strong crisis intervention skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Excellent conflict management and communication skills to handle sensitive situations tactfully.
